If you’ve recently upgraded to Chromperfect Version 6 or newer, you may have noticed a subtle but important change: the Operator field is no longer visible by default on the Download screen. While this design update helps streamline the interface for many users, it also removes a key feature that some labs rely on—being able to specify or select who performed each acquisition.
The good news? It’s easy to bring this functionality back with just a few quick steps.
Why Re-Enable the Operator Field?
In regulated laboratory environments—or even just well-organized ones—operator tracking is vital. Whether for audit trails, data integrity, or general accountability, knowing who handled a particular analysis helps maintain clear records and reduces errors.
Enabling the Operator field once again allows users to:
Enter their name before or during each data download.
Select from a predefined list of operator names.
Maintain cleaner, more traceable records.
Simplify lab handovers and shift-based data tracking.
For labs with multiple users working on the same acquisition client, this can dramatically improve traceability and reduce the chance of data misattribution.
How to Enable the Operator Field in Chromperfect V6+
1. Access the System Menu
Open Chromperfect and go to the top navigation bar. Click System to access application-wide settings.
2. Navigate to System → Misc
In the System menu dropdown, select System...Misc. This opens the miscellaneous settings area, where you can modify advanced options.
3. Enable Operator Sharing
Look for the checkbox labeled: "Share Acquisition Client among multiple operators" Check this box to re-enable the Operator functionality within the download process.
4. (Optional) Create a List of Operators
Click the Operator Names button. Here, you can define a standardized list of lab personnel. This ensures consistency in naming and allows operators to simply select their name from a dropdown, rather than typing it each time.
You can add, edit, or remove names as needed—ideal for managing larger teams.
5. Save and Restart Chromperfect
After you’ve made your selections, be sure to save your changes and restart the software. The Operator field will not appear until Chromperfect has been relaunched.
What Happens Next?
Once enabled, the Operator field will appear in the Download form as a combo box (dropdown). Users can either:
Select their name from the predefined list, or
Type their name manually if they are not listed.
This simple interface change restores the operator workflow used in previous versions of Chromperfect, providing better control over who is logging each acquisition.
